Nelson Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvements Project Open House Recap

Open House – held Sept. 29-30, 2021

 

The first open house for the Nelson Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvements project was held as an in-person event at the facility on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and as a virtual online event on Thursday, Sept. 30. 

 

  • 20 people attended the in-person event. 

  • Nine people signed in for the virtual event.  

 

The open house had five stations with a total of 14 informational boards covering the topics of:

  1. General information

    • The treatment facility, pump stations, force mains, and large diameter gravity sewer locations 

    • How wastewater treatment works

  2. Project drivers

    • Goals and drivers 

    • Historical timeline for the Nelson facility

    • New technologies

  3. Financial considerations

    • Integrated plan 

    • Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) funding overview

    • Rates

    • Schedule

  4. Environmental considerations

    • Sustainability

    • Nutrient removal

    • Private inflow & infiltration (I&I) removal

  5. Next steps

    • Schedule and planning

    • Survey/questionnaire

 

Feedback surveys were provided and filled out at the in-person open house, and those attending the virtual event were encouraged to fill out an online survey at a link provided in the meeting.
